You rocked it Moon, just coming from Mark's post, found some similarities with your one. Hope I could repost both of your posts together. Your post really inspired me to create my my own luck. I still it something within your "occasional" control, that's so hardwired in me.
If it's hardwired in you Mayank you need to rewire it, the only way to do that is to start making your own luck! The more you do that, the more it works and the easier of gets.
You can get from occasional to often with effort, make being lucky a habit!
Having now read your post I think we came at it from slightly different angles but it's clear to see we could have been sat at the same table glancing at each others work as we wrote.
The key concepts of making your own luck are all in both our pieces. It's obvious that neither of us are sat waiting for some magical genie or leprechaun to grant our wishes or give us access to luck.
I've enjoyed this collaborative experiment and it has almost felt like being back at school with an exciting homework assignment to write and reading each others essays before handing them in.
If that were the case, you'd get an A 🤣
Thanks for suggesting we do this, I feel "lucky" that we connected a few months ago.
This collaboration took only 3 days from discussion to writing and actual posting. It's proof that both of us are action-takers and not just lying around waiting for that luck to drop on our heads.
When you mentioned you wrote 2600 words, that really lit the fire behind me to start writing, so you are my motivator as well.
So, now we are "project-mates" in making our own luck. I feel instead of this 1+1, it has become 1x1... looking forward to more fun times like this.
Ha I hate to be "that" person but 1+1 and 1x1 are both still 1 🤣 but I know what you mean, instead of just addition it's yet another force multiplier in the formula, perhaps collaboration needs to be defined into my equation. "Luck loves teamwork!”
I love the perspective that luck is a skill you can cultivate. And the pitfalls to avoid that you identify? Those are some of the biggest sources of "opposition" in my life holding me back. Thanks for this fantastic post 🧡
Isn't it strange that when our mindset shift, the way we see things completely changes? Here's wishing you will get rid of all those obstacles and start moving forward at full speed!
Even lottery winners had to take steps, like buying tickets. They didn’t just wait, they got out there and bought them! Sometimes for 20 years or more they bought ticket after ticket with no results and no guarantee of one.
Almost anything creative we do repeatedly is going to give us a better payback than buying lottery tickets. All we have to do is keep showing up and making connections, and we will get our wins.
I have to laugh at this example of yours Tim! Yes, we need to reach out and do something in order to get something. Money is earned, friendship is gained and knowledge is attained, all by taking action.
I once heard something like this on Naval’s podcast. Creating your own luck by being the best at what you do, so only by then luck would be attracted to you.
I didn't really follow him before though I've heard of him. It's not until I start reading the book that I realized how aligned his values are with Buddhism and I really love those concepts!
Great piece. This reminds me of a thread by Naval Ravikant where he describes how to get rich without getting lucky and it touches on many if the points you make here.
I'm curious what was the name of the leadership class you took.

Just do it Mayank, reach out, stretch yourself, it may feel unnatural, even painful when you first start but it's going to be worth it!

Great advice from Mark. Rewiring your brain, it's one of my favourite topics too.
And the hardest to conquer.
First start with the "I can" mindset, and you can!
I'll try my best :)
That's all you can ask of anyone, especially yourself!

Shameless plug to my note:

Let me rewrite that to teamwork makes more luck than 1 person ever could!
That's how the multiplier work.
You can be "that" person, or any person you are, I accept you just as you are.
to develop a growth mindset can be so powerful!!
yes it is!

Thanks so much! And exactly—sometimes we have to re-learn that connection between mindset and action repeatedly :)
That’s called re-wiring the brain!

It's all about that mindset..once we break free of the groundswell it is amazing what we can achieve.
Definitely so Karen!

Such a coincidence Fither, I’m currently reading Naval’s Almanac at the moment. I’m grateful for your endorsement.
Yes! Naval is legit for sure

I'll try.
I really like it and am going to make sure I do my part.
May I suggest you write a detailed plan Mubina :)
I started it since 2 days ago n trying to be consistent with my gratitude journal. I need an a'c partner.
How about you post something everyday on Substack? That will be your a'c partner :)
Moon, a lot of good points, and action steps to follow. Love the quote by Thomas Edison had not heard that before. Keep them coming 🙏
Gratitude! Yes!
I've never liked the idea of “luck”.

Words of wisdom. A great way to start the year.
