I just stumbled across your post here!

One of my biggest struggles right now is that I can't build a writing routine of smaller articles/ideas/sections since "I feel I only can write big articles in 1-2 long sessions." But that is kind of draining, unsustainable. And it stresses me since I am always afraid that I a) might not have a long writing block available and b) might not have creative energy when having exactly this single long writing block. I want to enjoy my writing (I love writing).

I'd love to learn more about your journaling/note-taking! Do you always do it in a paper notebook? Is it only bullet points or a few sentences?

I see your publication with a postcard theme. Just think of your notes as a postcard, which has a space constraint and usually a picture with a theme.

If you were to capture that main theme in a postcard, what would you write. That's how you could practice writing shorter pieces.

That is brilliant!

I might do well in practising writing concisely, and then I can expand when I want to!

Exactly. To be honest, I started off the same as you. Writing notes has helped me a lot.

Phew, I am glad I am not alone here.

And now I even think that I could use a real postcard text style to start with, which could become an intro eventually. Oh dear, thanks so much, Moon Arica!

There is a new postcard coming tomorrow. It will be leaning towards embracing the chaos and sharing what has happened recently rather than discussing deep thoughts!

I can see your stress points. I use 2 tools to help me.

1) A physical notebook which I call my messy journal. Whenever I have ideas, I will jot down in point form, in scribbles and doodles, arrows flying, sometimes with mindmaps.

They don’t have to be complete, just random ideas. I will review them from time to time to see what my thoughts were at that time, maybe recalling the emotions back then.

2) My mobile. Sometimes when Im crossing the road, or waiting for the lift, even sitting in the toilet (lol), whenever I think of a sentence or maybe an idea that inspires me, I will quickly key into my phone.

You could explore to see what works for me. I’m more of a fluid person, my brain is usually on the go, so this hybrid method works for me. I’m also exploring something to help me organize better as this is very messy haha.

Thanks so much.

I tried these things with Notion and even voice recording (hate it), but my brain can't deal with "messy" notes scattered in different places and not "thought through". It will simply send them to the abyss, and they will never be looked at again.

Maybe I can try to find a more structured "not on the go" but still simple way...

I was just thinking of trying to use notion. my things are just too messy! lol

There's a part of me that embraces that messiness because I feel that cultivates my creativity, but I also fear it will kill my organization skills. it's like trying to find a balance and when you have that, you'll know what works for you.

I used to be very rigid in my Journaling, trying to make it as beautiful as possible, but eventually I realized messy works best for me.
