Holly Molly, I can flip pancakes with my left hand
A little story about how you can learn new skills
Pancake flipping is fun.
Boasting about it even more so
But I’m no cook.
I only tried it because I saw someone else flip it high.
And it looks fun.
But the first time I tried it, only my floor got the taste of half-cooked flour.
A few attempts later, I got the flour from half cooked to fully cooked, but it was still enjoyed by my floor.
Looking at that crispy goodness on the floor, I wanna hit myself with the pan.
30cm in diameter is too big!
That’s why I can’t catch it.
So I made it smaller, flip it lower and I’ve got it.
Pancakes doing 180-degree somersaults, woohoo!
You may ask, why am I telling you this?
Learning a new skill is not as hard as you may think.
How long did I take to “master” pancake flipping?
I’ll tell you in a minute.
Before that, let me tell you my first roller-blading experience last Saturday.
I’m super poor at hand-eye coordination.
That’s why I could never dance.
I have two left feet, and two right feet too
If you ever ask me to, be prepared to be stepped on.
Anyway, I have never tried roller blading before and I was really hesitant to try.
I was afraid of falling and experiencing bone fractures again.
I was on crutches for 2 months the last time, but that’s a story for another time.
Dare-to-fail is my theme, so I have to overcome my fear
of bad falls and bone fractures..
Which leads me to 3 hours of practice.
With the skating rink, a skating aid and tons of beginners like me.
After 3 hours of having fun, I love it.
The skating aid makes it really easy to keep balance, so there was no fear of falling (and breaking bones).
I was zooming by speedily (with the aid) towards the end.
The skating aid looks like a C-shaped railing on wheels and you can hold on to it for balance.
Pancake flipping and roller blading are new skills that I picked up recently.
Which brings me to the point today.
You can learn new skills
What we perceived difficult may not be so.
A change in strategy and some help may bring surprising results.
The main question is, are you willing to explore to find out?
That’s all I have for today, thanks for reading.
Have you learned any new skills recently?
Did you face up to challenges and discover ways to overcome them?
I’d love to hear your story, hit reply and tell me, will you?
p.s: It took me a few months of pancake flipping. Now I can do with either hand.
If you like what you read today, feel free to share.
Thanks for the restack!
