3 Most Common Psychological Fears and Simple Strategies To Overcome Them
(They sound icky but they work)
1. Public speaking
Public speaking is not just something you do on stage.
Like it or not, we are doing this everyday.
When you meet a new person.
When you are pitching.
When you do a presentation.
If you are afraid, you won’t do a good job.
Because the fear shows through.
Simple strategy:
Step 1 - Practice with your mirror
With all your weird facial expressions and funny gestures.
Step 2 - Let your imagination help you
Imagine your audience as having bob heads
Imagine them listening intently but wearing clown suits
2. Not being good enough
More commonly called the “Imposter Syndrome”.
I always believe in “Fake it till you make it”.
The key word here being “till”.
Till is where you have to put in time and effort.
Before you sweat it out, let’s do the simple strategy.
Simple strategy:
Step 1 - Fake your confidence
This is the easy part.
Tweak your posture.
Stand straight and take big strides.
Look at people in the eye (fake that with this tip)
People will view you differently.
Step 2 - Fake your knowledge
With a little skill, you will pass this.
Non-technical stuff
Use your charm, your stories and limited knowledge
Technical stuff
Be truthful.
Impress them later with real knowledge.
3. Criticism
I know, I know, this is a bitter pill to swallow.
This will make it easier.
Simple strategy:
Step 1: Grow thicker skin on these body parts – ears, face, mind
Have you heard of soundproof walls?
Thicker skin serves that function.
Step 2: You got free stuff
What people say may not be true, but it’s a different voice.
Criticisms gave you:
New ideas
New perspectives
New truths (which you don’t want to admit)
What more can you ask for?

Which needs different strategies.
